Richard first joined the orchestra as a Double Bass player in the early 1950s. After a spell working for the BBC in London he returned to Wiltshire and rejoined the orchestra in 1971 (with a new Double Bass!). Together with other members of the orchestra he also peformed jazz all over the county and at orchestral concerts. In the 1980s Richard became a committee member and was soon asked to become the Chairman of the Society, a post which he held until retiring in 2001. Following this, Richard was elected to the new post of President of the Society.
Due to advancing years Richard decided to "hang up his bow" in 2004, but is pleased to be able to continue his association with the orchestra in the role of President.
